Trying to download files from Baidu Netdisk (pan.baidu.com) from outside of China is a huge pain the ass. mainly because baidu’s web registration form often blocks international numbers with errors or fails to send verification texts.

This guide covers how to successfully create an account using the mobile app workaround and the best ways to pull files without paying a subscription fee. and because well we do need more people to download from sites like qxmugen since there's a lot of important and interesting files on there for the mugen community that being said let's start.

Step 1: Creating a Free Baidu Account (The Mobile App Workaround)

If the desktop website blocks your international phone number or throws an overseas registration error, use the official mobile app method instead it handles country codes and SMS verification much more reliably:

  1. Download the Baidu Netdisk (百度网盘) app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store onto your phone
  2. Open the app, go to the registration/login screen, and look for the international country code drop-down menu. (Note: If you encounter a block on the desktop web version, the mobile app's verification backend often lets international numbers pass through).
  3. Enter your standard mobile number (such as a US +1 number), complete the security puzzle, and enter the SMS verification code sent to your phone
  4. Once your account is active on your phone, open the Baidu Netdisk desktop application or web portal on your computer and use the QR code scanner (located on the login screen) to log in instantly by scanning it with your phone app

Step 2: The Direct Web Route (Best for Small Files)

If the file you are trying to download is relatively small (under 100 MB–200 MB), you can grab it straight through your browser once logged in.

  • Click the Baidu share link, enter the 4-digit extraction code if prompted, and save the file to your cloud space before attempting a browser download.
  • The Catch: For files larger than a couple hundred megabytes, Baidu’s web interface will severely throttle speeds down to 10–50 KB/s unless you bypass the restriction.

Step 3: Bypassing Speed Limits with Open-Source Tools (Best for Large Files)

If you are dealing with multi-gigabyte files (like game builds, large stage packs, or massive asset libraries) and want full speed without paying for VIP, you can bypass Baidu's web restrictions using a terminal-based API client like BaiduPCS-Go.

  1. Get the Tool: Go to GitHub and look up BaiduPCS-Go (community forks like qjfoidnh/BaiduPCS-Go are actively maintained). Download the compiled release binary for your operating system.
  2. Log In via Command Line: Extract the archive, open your terminal or command prompt, and run the executable to log in using your newly created Baidu account.
  3. Queue and Download: Use the tool's command syntax to point to the shared file or your cloud directory. Because it interacts directly with Baidu's backend API and supports multi-threading or download manager integrations (like Aria2), it completely bypasses the standard browser throttling chokehold.

Alternative: The Community Mirror Request

If command-line tools sound like too much of a hassle, remember the golden rule of sharing files from Chinese hosting platforms: Always check for a mirror.

It helps to see if there it s mirror because, I get it it's a long process especially If a resource is locked behind baidu's walls, drop a request in the forum threads. often, someone with an active account can grab the file and re-upload it to a western-friendly mirror like Google Drive, Mega, or the Internet Archive for everyone else to enjoy freely.

That is all. if you have any trouble I can't guarantee you that much help since I struggle with this too and am just following this guide as well so yes let's go.

Just adding an extra comment here, Baidu is infamous outside of China, since ya know, Baidu is meant for a chinese audience but there such golden stuff uploaded exclusively there that it makes people outside of China struggle like hell having to get through all those hurdles to even nab those masterpieces.
