Note: this is for if anyone encounters this bug. if you didn't you're good you can pass on this. but this bug was recently reported by one of our users.
Bug: On a fresh install of beta 3.0.1, the title screen loads but pressing any key immediately exits the game. The character select screen never appears.
Root cause: selectplus.lua` (the character select mod) calls
hook.add() at startup before the hook system is initialized. This causes a crash:
attempt to index global 'hook' (a nil value). Since selectplus handles the entire select screen, it takes the menu down with it.
This affects all clean 3.0.1 installs.
If your VOID is doing any of the following, you need this fix:
- Title screen appears but Enter/Start exits immediately
- Character select never opens
- Log shows
selectplus.lua:1087: attempt to index global 'hook' (a nil value)
### Fix (takes 30 seconds)
1. Navigate to your VOID install folder →
external/mods/
2. Create a new file named exactly
_hook.lua (underscore prefix is important it must sort before
selectplus.lua)
3. Paste the following into it and save:
Code:
-- VOID hook pre-shim (3.0.1 workaround)
-- Fixes: selectplus.lua crash on 'hook' nil at startup
hook = hook or {}
hook._cbs = hook._cbs or {}
if not hook.add then
function hook.add(point, id, fn)
if hook._cbs[point] == nil then hook._cbs[point] = {} end
hook._cbs[point][id] = fn
end
end
if not hook.fire then
function hook.fire(point)
local cbs = hook._cbs[point]
if cbs then
for id, fn in pairs(cbs) do pcall(fn) end
end
end
end
4. Launch VOID. Character select should now load normally.
This fix is already in the dev build and will ship in the next release. The
_hook.lua file is safe to leave in your install after updating it has no effect once the fix is built in.
If you can't do it yourself no problem, the link to add it is here:
