"I'm not seeking penance for what I've done, Father. I'm asking forgiveness...for what I'm about to do."
– Matt Murdock

Matthew Murdock was born and raised solely by his father, Jonathan, who worked as a boxer. Not wanting his son to grow up to be an "uneducated pig" as he believed himself to be, he pushed the young Matthew to constantly study, hoping he'd want to become a lawyer or doctor instead of becoming an aggressive fighter. After Matt saves a blind man from being hit by a truck he is unaware of, Matt is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from it as it swerves out of the way. Even after his father is killed by a gangster, Matt takes up the alter-ego of Daredevil while still studying to become a lawyer, switching to his superhero alias to fight crime at night in hopes of being able to avenge his father.
