"Listen. Where you're going? Tell your friends. Tell everyone you meet. You tell them all. When you see me coming...RUN."

– Moon Knight, Moon Knight #5, 2014

Marc Spector was a mercenary and a former member of the US Marines and the CIA. After leaving the CIA due to his girlfriend's murder at the hands of his brother, Marc befriended "Frenchie" Duchamp while participating in illegal fighting rings, and the two began working as soldiers for hire. While on a job in Egypt, working for a man who wished to pillage a pharaoh's tomb, Marc's client killed the leading archaeologist at the site. Marc, seeing how crazed his client was, responded by protecting the archaeologist's daughter from harm, leading his client to fatally wound him and leave him, and most of his other hired hands, for dead. Frenchie and the archaeologist's daughter, Marlene Alraune, who managed to escape the massacre, would find Marc's corpse in the tomb, and lay him to rest at the feet of an idol of Khonshu. This connected Marc's spirit with Khonshu, who brought Marc to life and bestowed his power unto him. After punishing some of his killer's men, Marc returned to America where he used his new life to fight evil as Moon Knight, while also living as Khonshu's mortal avatar.
