◆ Story
One day...
Maisie was relaxing in the magic research wing, idly stroking her pet cat's belly, when she received a royal decree.
Official: "Retrieve the Wyrmking's Ring from the Arisen who has turned bandit."
Maisie: "Huh?"
Official: "Go."
Maisie: "Yes, sir."
To be continued...

This is a fan-fiction piece set in the world of the Capcom RPG Dragon's Dogma, imagining what it would be like if a sorcerer like this existed in the game.
You may already know what the "Wyrmking's Ring"—Maisie's objective—is if you have played the game, but here is a brief explanation:
It is a rare treasure found in the game; when equipped, it reduces the time required to cast spells.
As the story progresses, an incident occurs where the Wyrmking's Ring, kept within the castle, is stolen by an unknown party.
The protagonist of Dragon's Dogma (the Arisen) is then tasked with retrieving the ring from the thieves.
After various twists and turns, the Arisen succeeds in recovering the ring.
However, because the ring is so powerful, the Arisen (player) might choose to keep it for themselves; they can prepare a forgery, deliver the fake to the King, and complete the mission. (Of course, there are also honest Arisen who deliver the genuine article.)
There comes a point where the ring begins to be suspected as a fake, but a far more serious incident occurs, causing the matter to be swept under the rug; the story never addresses it further.
Maisie's story begins right here.
