Tier 4: God Tier (神)
This tier represents extremely powerful characters that sit at the boundary of normal MUGEN programming. God Tier cheapies can dominate most Mad/Crazy characters, but they generally do not rely on the most extreme engine-breaking exploits used in Null tiers.
How to Make a Tier 4 (God Tier) Cheapie
- Start with a Strong Foundation
Use a well-coded Tier 3 (Mad/Crazy) cheapie or a high-quality base as your starting point.
- Heavy Code Editing
This tier requires significant editing of the .cns, .cmd, and .st files. Use Fighter Factory Studio along with Notepad++ for precision.
- Implement Powerful Defensive & Recovery Tech
Add strong life recovery and defense buffs.
Use techniques such as passive LifeAdd and PowerAdd in statedef -2 or -3 to give the character massive sustain.
- Add Overwhelming Offense
Implement moves that can rapidly reduce the opponent’s life to zero (OHKO style) or force them into dangerous states.
Use advanced HitDef tricks, unblockable attacks, and strong AI to maintain constant pressure.
- Incorporate Light God Tech
Use basic Null Overflows, %n tricks, or Variable Expansion for information gathering and targeting.
Implement helper-based techniques such as Marking or basic Crosstalk for persistent targeting without going full Null.
- Advanced AI & Frame Data
Create extremely aggressive AI that punishes every opening.
Reduce frame data on key moves to make them nearly instant.
- Test Thoroughly
Test against multiple high-tier characters. God Tier should feel overwhelmingly strong but still somewhat fair in skilled hands.
Common God Tier Traits
- Extremely high damage output and sustain
- Powerful defensive gimmicks (hyper armor, life regen)
- Advanced helper targeting and state manipulation
- Very aggressive AI
Tips for God Tier
- This tier requires advanced coding knowledge — take your time
- Focus on making the character dominant but not completely broken
- Always credit bases and study existing God Tier characters for reference
- Be prepared for stability issues — test extensively
Once your God Tier cheapie feels truly dominant, you can explore the final tier: Tier 5+: Null & Above.
