Vortigon (v1.9.5) by DeluxeGamer705
From: Chaos Faction
============================================================================================================================================================================

Chaos Faction... ah, remember that game? Chaos Faction is honestly one of the greatest games I have ever played, with its sequel, Chaos Faction 2, being even better. Both games are fighting games, but it has some noticeable stuff most fighting games don't have, such as a life counter, and other stuff. Vortigon is the main antagonist in Chaos Faction 1, and returned as Hypergon in Chaos Faction 2, but was available to be unlocked if you got all achievements. One day, I was thinking about making a character from Chaos Faction for Mugen, and I decided to go with Vortigon.

============================================================================================================================================================================
1. WHO IS VORTIGON?

Vortigon is a character from Chaos Faction, appearing as the final boss and unlockable character. His battle takes place on Universe City, which features a main platform that frequently changes its look, such as limiting the space you can stand on, or giving you more of it, as well as three platforms at the top that frequently teleport every now and then. His special weapon is the Atom Bomb, an OHKO that K.O.'s every character on-screen, including Vortigon himself. In Chaos Faction 2, he has a team that consits of Minigons and Hypergon, the commander of the Minigons, where the battle takes place in Chaos Tower. Vortigon in Chaos Faction 2 is unlockable via earning all achievements.

-v1.9 (April 10, 2026)
 *[RENAME] Finisher to Ultimate.
*[NERF/FIX] Atomic Bomb now disappears if Vortigon is K.O.'d, not if a K.O. happens in general.
*[NERF] Ground knockback for aerial normals (except for aerial C) was increased in an attempt to remove infinites via shorthopping.
*[BUFF] A.I. should now use Atomic Bomb more often if the requirements are met, and the A.I. shouldn't perform some things at inappropriate times.
*[CHANGE] Hyper background duration is shorter.

-v1.8.7 (October 13, 2025)
*[FIX] Aerial Flamethrower lacked hurtboxes on nearly all frames.
 *[CHANGE] Readme design.

-v1.8.5 (July 21, 2025)

*[BUFF] Vortigon now can chain light normals into hard normals.
*[CHANGE] Aerial drift now works differently, making Vortigon change directions in a more fluid way.

-v1.8.1 (July 13, 2025)
*[CHANGE] Vortigon's finisher (Atomic Bomb) received some changes, mainly nerfs:
*[NERF] Vortigon now does not run away from the stage when the bomb falls, instead remaining on the battlefield. This also heavily reduces his invincibility time.
*[NERF] The explosion now hits Vortigon and his teammates, though it does not K.O. them, instead reducing their HP to 1.
*[NERF] When Vortigon is K.O.'d, the bomb disappears.
*[ADD] The bomb's countdown timer now flashes, to be more accurate to the animation in Chaos Faction 1, as I forgot that
  the timer flashed.

*[ADD] New mechanics: Parry and Air Dash.
 *[ADD] Guard Cancel.
 *[ADD] Hyper Combo Finish.

*[BUFF] Vortigon's comboability was expanded; now he can cancel Sniper Rifle into Plank Swing!
*[BUFF] Rage Ability now causes a pause to happen before the hitbox comes out, fully making it a combo tool.
*[BUFF] A.I. in several ways, now should be more smarter.
*[ADD] Airborne versions for Sniper Rifle, Missile Shoot, Plank Swing, and Flamethrower.
*[EDIT] Some animations received new frames, making them more fluid.
*[CHANGE] Ninja Star is now a helper-based move, with the projectiles now spinning. The animation when it hits the opponent is also now different.
*[CHANGE] Stronger versions of Plank Swing now have longer hitstun and a longer pausetime. While this leaves Vortigon more vulnerable, he can remedy this by just cancelling it into any of his two hypers (if he has enough power).

*[BUFF] Sniper Rifle's startup has been lowered, and the hitbox was made slightly more closer to Vortigon's hurtboxes.
*[NERF] Vortigon's normals now push opponents into further distance.
 *[CHANGE] A.I. in some ways.
*[FIX] The hyper portrait now binds to the screen.
 *[BUFF] Flamethrower has shorter startup.
*[BUFF] It is now possible to cancel Vortigon's light and medium normals into specials and hypers.

-v1.3 (January 1, 2024)

3. GAMEPLAY

-MAIN GAMEPLAY-
Vortigon is a character that has a mix of keepway, long-range gameplay, and rushdown. He has two specials that are projectiles, with each one being used to zone out the opponent and camp, as well as a long-ranged special and a special that moves him forward slightly. In addition, he also has a multi-hit projectile hyper, and a hyper that covers his hurtboxes and launches the opponent up. As a result, you can use the three together!

Some specials also come with an EX version, a stronger version that requires 500 power and gives some longer endlag, and EX moves require two buttons to be pressed.

-COMBOS-
Vortigon mainly focuses on ground combos. He can chain his normals smoothly and can also chain them into specials and hypers, as well as being able to chain his melee specials into hypers. He also has tricky airborne combos, though they are mainly used to start his combos and finish them via a ground combo. His combos work better if he's in the corner, as it is easier for him to chain moves.

-MECHANICS-
Vortigon has a few mechanics to go through. One of them is a dodge, performed with A (light kick for normal characters). When he performs it, he does not get hit from melee attacks and projectiles, giving him a defensive tool, unless he is hit by a throw (which WILL hit him, so don't be surprised when he is hit by a grab for example if he's dodging!). The second one is a power charge, performed with B (medium kick for normal characters). Doing this will cause Vortigon to gain power if the button is held, which will give him faster access to EX specials and hypers, though this comes at a cost of not allowing him to move, so make sure you don't abuse it too much. The third one is parrying, performed when you walk forward just before the opponent's attack makes contact, and this mechanic has an airborne version. When performed, Vortigon negates all damage the opponent's attack would do to him, while providing small invincibility to not be hit while parrying. Another one is an air dash, performed by pressing forward twice to do a forward one and vice versa. This does not give him any unique properties, but allows him to cancel it into any of his normals, while giving him more air control. And lastly, he has a super jump, performed by pressing X+Y+Z at the same time. This is mainly a defensive mechanic where he can avoid certain attacks that he might not really be able to avoid by air jumping, though this is character-dependant.

-MOVELIST-
SPECIALS:
(NOTE: All specials have an airborne version)

Ninja Star: D, DF, F, X/Y/Z
- Vortigon throws a ninja star/shuriken as a projectile which flies into a slight vertical angle, with varying horizontal velocity depending on which button is pressed.
 - EX version: Tracks the opponent's position and causes hard knockdown.

Sniper Rifle: D, DF, F, A/B/C
- Vortigon fires a sniper rifle on his opponents, causing hard knockdown. Has a long range and can be used as a combo tool.

Missile Shoot: D, DB, B, X/Y/Z
- Vortigon grabs a missile launcher and shoots a missile from it. Causes hard knockdown once it connects, and the projectile can be hit, though successfully hitting it will still cause slight damage to the opponent.
 - EX version: Fires two projectiles, with the second one causing hard knockdown.

Plank Swing: D, DB, B, A/B/C
- Vortigon swings a plank and slaps the opponent with it, causing hard wall bounce if the opponent is near the wall. Horizontal distance varies depending on the button pressed.
 - EX version: Has bigger knockback.

Straight Down Stomp: D, D, X/Y/Z (AIR ONLY)
- Vortigon goes down from a jump, stomping the opponent. Falling speed varies depending on the button pressed. Cannot be blocked
while crouching.
 - EX version: Vortigon falls faster and squashes the opponent if they're on the ground.

------------------------
HYPERS:

Flamethrower: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, X/Y/Z (uses 1000 power)
- Vortigon pulls a flamethrower, firing 20 projectiles from it. Each projectile causes soft knockdown. Can be used while airborne.

Rage Ability: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, A/B/C (uses 2000 power)
- Vortigon, in a temporary fit of rage, slams the ground so hard, the opponent goes up if it connects. Cannot be blocked while crouching and causes hard knockdown if it connects.

-ULTIMATE-
The ultimate is an unblockable move that is performed by crouching thrice and pressing X+Y+Z. The move covers the entire screen, and can only be performed after the "DANGER!" message appears, while giving them full invincibility during its duration. In an unique case for my creations, Vortigon's ultimate is an OHKO after a short while. 3000 power is required.

Vortigon's finisher - Atomic Bomb:
Vortigon uses a remote to call an Atomic Bomb. The bomb can squash the opponents, and after 10 seconds, it'll explode, OHKOing the opponents on-screen as long as they don't have invincibility. This, however, also causes self-damage for Vortigon and his teammates, but it doesn't OHKO them (since it would result in a double K.O.)

============================================================================================================================================================================
4. PALETTES
Vortigon has a total of 12 palettes, all of which can be selected if you press a different button when you're at the character select screen. Note that palettes 7-12 can only be selected if you hold start (which is used for the taunt). However, Vortigon comes with a palette selector, which allows the player to select any of the 12 palettes, which can be helpful if they change their mind before the match can start. Below are the palettes:

A: Red (Default)
B: Orange
C: Yellow
X: Green
Y: Cyan
Z: Blue
Start+A: Dark Blue
Start+B: Purple
Start+C: Pink
Start+X: Gray
Start+Y: White
Start+Z: Dark

5. NOTES

-THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make a match with him.
 2. Share it with your friends/fans in case you would want them to gain a potential interest in the Chaos Faction if they never played any of the two games.
 3. Give him an A.I. patch if you want him A.I. to be stronger. No permission needed, though credit will be still appreciated. :)
 4. Create additional palettes for him, in case you would want more variety or have your own palettes.
 5. Send me feedback if there are any oddities, oopsies, or bugs, especially that can affect his gameplay.

-THINGS YOU CANNOT DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make NSFW/18+ edits (this includes vore edits.).
 2. Bash him (it's a waste of time. There are better ways of using your time rather than bashing. This isn't the 2010s anymore anyways).
 3. Make spriteswaps or paletteswaps of him, because doing them is laziness and is disrespectful.
 4. Giving deconstructive feedback (such as "Your char sucks lol, learn how to make chars dork", or "Lol you can't make chars properly, you're a loser"), as it sounds more like insulting not just the character, but me.

-THINGS THAT REQUIRE PERMISSION-
 1. As I tend to have trust issues with some Mugen content creators, editing him requires permission from me. Note that what can be edited are combos, gameplay, and other stuff, but absolutely no NSFW/18+ edits as mentioned earlier.
 2. Using codes from the character if you're creating a Mugen character yourself. It's better to learn how to code instead of steal, so if you would want to use some of his code, ask me first.
 3. Use of sprites in a different project.

-KNOWN ISSUES-
 1. The A.I. code is not perfect, but I tried.

-OTHER NOTES-
 1. This character was made only for Mugen 1.0 and up. Older versions of Mugen will not load the character.
 2. Tested on Mugen 1.1, but still works on Mugen 1.0.

============================================================================================================================================================================
6. INSTALLATION

Struggling with adding Vortigon to your roster? No worries, here's how to do it:

1. Unpack the character's folder and add it in the chars folder
2. Go to data and open select
3. Paste the following name in the character section: Vortigon

And here you go! Vortigon should now appear anytime you start Mugen.
