Raboot (v1.2) by DeluxeGamer705
From: Pokemon
============================================================================================================================================================================

Another case of me making a Pokemon for Mugen. One idea I had for a quite long time is Raboot, due to him being one of my favourites, and pretty much being my favourite of the Scorbunny line. This is also the first time I'm making a character for Mugen that, rather than using 6 or 3 buttons, uses 4 buttons, which renders Raboot as my first 4-button character (unless you count the taunt as the fifth one, but it actually doesn't count).

============================================================================================================================================================================
1. WHO IS RABOOT?

Raboot is a Fire-type Pokemon that made his appearance since the 8th generation. He evolves from Scorbunny, and later envolves into Cinderace. Raboot has an aloof personality most of the time, preferring to put his paws into his "pockets" so that he can prevent heat loss. When he evolved from Scorbunny, Raboot has grown more serious, but would also start to distance himself from Goh, but still cared for him deep inside.

2. CHANGELOG

-v1.2 (May 6, 2026)
*[NERF] Foot Dive now has more endlag, in order to attempt to remove an infinite that it had with the launcher and the super jump.
*[CHANGE] Some palettes were replaced. The K' palette was removed, and was replaced with a palette based on Shadow the Hedgehog. The blue palette was also removed, being replaced with a Riolu palette. However, the K' and Blue palettes were left unused in case you preferred them more.
*[ADD] Character-specific intros against Scorbunny and Cinderace, as well as victory quotes against them.
*[CHANGE] Hitsounds for kicks, which are now different from the punches.
*[CHANGE] Hitsound when Raboot kicks the rock from Rock Kick.
*[NERF] Ultimate is now blockable, dealing 475 chip damage. This will become a standard for my other creations (funny how this wasn't mentioned almost a year when I started adding ultimates, eh?)
*[BUFF] However, speaking of the ultimate, when it is blocked, Raboot's endlag will be decreased to not leave him vulnerable.
*[CHANGE] Retro palette, which has been recoloured.
*[CHANGE] Standing animation, as well as some front-facing sprites.
*[NERF] Ground knockback for aerial normals was increased in an attempt to remove infinites via shorthopping.
*[CHANGE] Normal version of Flame Charge; it now causes soft knockdown if the opponent is airborne, and it no longer launches them up when grounded. EX version remains unchanged, though.
*[CHANGE] Some sprites, mainly the crouching ones, as well as for the light punches.
*[ADD] One more victory quote against a few characters.
*[ADD] New sprites for Double Kick and the ultimate. Double Kick's new sprites are used for the second kicks.
*[CHANGE] Raboot is now smaller. While it slightly decreases his range, it also makes him slightly harder to hit.
 *[ADD] "FAQ" section.

-v1.1 (April 8, 2026)
*[CHANGE] Throws were swapped; from now on, the back throw is the one that makes Raboot turn around.
*[CHANGE] Flame Charge, in some ways:
  - Its chip damage is no longer randomized between 0 and 1 (2 for EX version)
  - It now hits every 10th frame, reducing the amount of hits it can deal.
  - Its vertical knockback is now larger so that the hits can connect with the opponent.
*[CHANGE] Forward Air Dash has received new sprites
*[CHANGE] Some sprites were tweaked after I've been informed that the legs (commonly the right one) looked wonky/strange/off.
*[CHANGE] Hyper background no longer lasts for as long.
*[NERF] Crouching B is no longer an OTG.
*[ADD] Certain note regarding the sprites (scroll down to the "THINGS TO DO" section if you want to see it)

-v1.0 (April 5, 2026)

3. GAMEPLAY

-MAIN GAMEPLAY-
Raboot is a character that relies on high speed, but his moves don't dish out much damage and he cannot tank many hits. Therefore, Raboot must be careful in order to prevent himself from getting caught in a move that can be very damaging to him (commonly single-hit hypers). However, high speed also means that Raboot has a chance to outspeed the opponent, which can make him a tough foe against slow characters or characters that don't attack that often (commonly seen in Mugen's default A.I.)

Some specials also come with an EX version, a stronger version that requires 500 power and gives some longer endlag, and EX moves require two buttons to be pressed. Some moves are marked with square brackets ([ ]), which means the button must be held down.

-COMBOS-
Raboot uses Chain Comboing for combos, and as a result, if a move hits the opponent, it can be chained into another one, which allows Raboot to unleash more combos. In addition, Raboot has an ability to chain melee Specials into other ones, and can chain any melee attack into a hyper. Raboot has aerial raves as well, though none of Raboot's normals function like a spike, instead, he has a special that functions like a spike, allowing you to end a combo if you want to, unless you want to expand it with more moves (mostly a hyper). Note that the hitstun his moves provide is low, so you must be quicker if you want to perform combos.

-MECHANICS-
Raboot has a few mechanics to go through. One of them is a dodge, activated by pressing X+A. When performed, Raboot will dodge an opponent's attack as long as it's not attributed as a throw (which WILL hit him, so don't be surprised if he gets hit while dodging). Another one is a Swift Dash, performed by pressing X+A too, but only when Raboot is walking forward or backward. It has the same properties as the dodge. Another one is a power charge, performed with Y+B. Doing this will cause Raboot to gain power if the buttons are held, which will give him faster access to EX specials and hypers, though this comes at a cost of not allowing him to move, so make sure you don't abuse it too much. The third one is parrying, performed when you walk forward just before the opponent's attack makes contact, and this mechanic has an airborne version. When performed, Raboot negates all damage the opponent's attack would do to him, while providing small invincibility to not be hit while parrying. Another one is an air dash, performed by pressing forward twice to do a forward one and vice versa. This does not give him any unique properties, but allows him to cancel it into any of his normals, while giving him more air control. He also has a super jump, performed by pressing down, and then up. This is mostly a combo tool used when performing combos, although Raboot can also use it to reach the opponent if they're higher above him.

-MOVELIST-
SPECIALS:

Rock Kick: D, DF, F, X/Y
- Raboot kicks a rock onto the opponent. The rock's velocity is varied depending on the buton pressed, and due to the move going diagonally up, the move has a chance to hit the opponent while airborne. Causes a knockdown if the opponent is airborne and is a good zoning tool.
 - EX version: The rock's vertical velocity tracks the opponent's position.

Double Kick: D, DF, F, A/B
- Raboot delivers two kicks, with the second one causing a knockdown. Horizontal distance varies depending on the buton pressed. Can be used while airborne.
 - EX version: Raboot delivers a total of four kicks.
  - This move is also used for the Guard Cancel, performed by pressing X+Y during blockstun at the cost of 1000 power.

Foot Dive: [D], A/B (AIR ONLY)
- Raboot dives downwards, knocking the opponent onto the ground if the move connects, resulting in a ground bounce. Can be used to end air combos since it's a spike.

Flame Charge: D, DB, B, X/Y
- Raboot becomes ignited a flame as he charges forward, hitting the opponent several times and causing a knockdown. Great combo tool.
 - EX version: Raboot charges faster.

Counter: D, DB, B, A/B
- Raboot does a defensive pose, and if hit, he kicks the opponent away, onto the wall, resulting in a wall bounce. If you don't want a wall bounce, you can also press a button when Raboot hits the opponent when he counters their move to launch them up, allowing for slightly more damage. This allows you to decide if you want to back the opponent away into the corner, or knock them up to be closer to you in case you'll be preparing for a combo. You can also mash any of the kick buttons to instantly trigger the second hit when Raboot counters the opponent's attack.

------------------------
HYPERS:

Quick Attack: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, X/Y (uses 1000 power)
- Raboot charges forward, hitting the opponent and causing a knockdown. Raboot will stop if he reaches the wall or if he hits the opponent, though the latter results in him having to complete the running animation first.

Flurry of Kicks: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, A/B (uses 1000 power)
- Raboot attempts to hit the opponent with his foot, and if successful, he parforms a flurry of kicks (duh), ending with a knockdown on the final hit. Automatic combo tool, and the first hit must connect if the flurry must happen, otherwise it won't. Can be used while airborne.

Ember: D, DB, B, D, DB, B, X/Y (uses 2000 power)
- Raboot prepares to kick a rock falling from the sky, as the rock indeed falls, and when Raboot kicks it, it ignites on fire, exploding upon contact (whether it's the floor or the opponent).

Blaze Kick - D, DB, B, D, DB, B, A/B (uses 3000 power)
- Similar to Quick Attack, except that the move lasts longer, and hits more times. Also has an airborne version.

-ULTIMATE-
The ultimate is a move that is performed by crouching thrice and pressing X+Y+Z. The move covers the entire screen, dealing almost enough damage to K.O. the opponent if at full HP, and can only be performed after the "DANGER!" message appears, while giving them full invincibility during its duration.

Raboot's ultimate - The Big Boom:
Raboot notices a boulder from a sky, as he ends up kicking it hard, it ignites on fire, and it unleashes a huge explosion upon hitting the ground. Similar to Ember, except that the boulder bounces off walls instead of going through them and does not hit the opponents.

============================================================================================================================================================================
4. PALETTES
Raboot has a total of 12 palettes, all of which can be selected if you press a different button when you're at the character select screen. Note that palettes 7-12 can only be selected if you hold start (which is used for the taunt). However, Raboot comes with a palette selector, which allows the player to select any of the 12 palettes, which can be helpful if they change their mind before the match can start. Below are the palettes:

A: Default
B: Sobble
C: Kyo
X: Cinderace
Y: Pika
Z: Reverse
Start+A: Scorbunny
Start+B: DeMille
Start+C: OW THE EDGE... er, I mean, Shadow the Hedgehog
Start+X: Riolu
Start+Y: Retro
Start+Z: Shiny

-UNUSED PALETTES-
Unused palettes are palettes that were originally in the previous versions. They were replaced with different ones, but I left them unused in case there was someone that preferred them.

Start+B: Blue (can be a replacement for the DeMille palette)
Start+C: K' (can be a replacement for the Shadow palette)

5. NOTES

-THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make a match with him.
 2. Share it with your friends/fans in case you would want them to gain a potential interest in Pokemon (if they somehow did not hear about the franchise)
 3. Give him an A.I. patch if you want his A.I. to be stronger. No permission needed, though credit will be still appreciated. :)
 4. Create additional palettes for him, in case you would want more variety or have your own palettes.
 5. Send me feedback if there are any oddities, oopsies, or bugs, especially that can affect his gameplay. Just make sure it's constructive!

-THINGS YOU CANNOT DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make NSFW/18+ edits (this includes vore edits.).
 2. Bash him (it's a waste of time. There are better ways of using your time rather than bashing. This isn't the 2010s anymore anyways).
 3. Make spriteswaps or paletteswaps of him, because doing them is laziness and is disrespectful.
 4. Giving deconstructive feedback (such as "Your char sucks lol, learn how to make chars dork", or "Lol you can't make chars properly, you're a loser"), as it sounds more like insulting not just the character, but me.

-THINGS THAT REQUIRE PERMISSION-
 1. As I tend to have trust issues with some Mugen content creators, editing him requires permission from me. Note that what can be edited are combos, gameplay, and other stuff, but absolutely no NSFW/18+ edits as mentioned earlier.
 2. Using codes from the character if you're creating a Mugen character yourself. It's better to learn how to code instead of steal, so if you would want to use some of his code, ask me first.
 3. Use of sprites in a different project.

-KNOWN ISSUES-
 1. The A.I. code is not perfect, but I tried.

-OTHER NOTES-
 1. This character was made only for Mugen 1.0 and up. Older versions of Mugen will not load the character.
 2. Tested on Mugen 1.1 (mostly), but still works on Mugen 1.0.

-THINGS TO DO-
 1. Change some sprites in the future so that they'll not use the standing animation as a base (because of feedback I've received, though I've also received a suggestion from Mozaico to sketch the sprites first, so credit to him for the idea!)

6. FAQ
(for more FAQ, head onto my site: https://sites.google.com/view/dxgsmugensite/faq

Q: What's the point of unused palettes? Why are you even including things like these?
A: Some people would prefer an older palette so just to not make them feel upset that their favourite palette got removed, I left the unused palettes in, just in case someone preferred them more.

Q: Bro I liked the shorthop infinites, add them back now!!1
A: In your dreams. This is clearly a gameplay issue that I did not intend to happen, so you have no room to complain about their removal. Deal with it.

Q: Why not just use generative A.I. to make sprites? That would save you a lot of time!
A: NEVER. IN. A. MILLION. YEARS. I may have had little experience with art when I was younger but AT LEAST I don't rely on generative A.I. to do the job. And honestly, you shouldn't as well. This includes making A.I. art in general - pick up a pencil and use it!

============================================================================================================================================================================
7. INSTALLATION

Struggling with adding Raboot to your roster? No worries, here's how to do it:

1. Unpack the character's folder and add it in the chars folder
2. Go to data and open select
3. Paste the following name in the character section: Raboot

And here you go! Raboot should now appear anytime you start Mugen.
