Deluxe the Cloudy (v1.5) by DeluxeGamer705
From: Original character
============================================================================================================================================================================

My (third) self-insert, created to be consistent with my persona. This time, I decided to start using more button layouts for my creations, such as a 6-button, 4-button, and my usual 3-button one. For Deluxe, I decided to aim for the 6-button layout, considering this was the layout when I originally made the previous self-inserts in 2024.

============================================================================================================================================================================
1. WHO IS DELUXE?

Deluxe the Cloudy, or just Deluxe, is a Cloudrian that resides in the Colourful Cloudyland, known for its colourful clouds, which are seen very rarely by other people besides its residents. He is a calm and a very friendly creature to those he knows and respects very well, which especially includes his best friends Kaizo, Tsuyoi, and Mayumi. However, he has potential jerkish moments, but mainly towards those he finds to be an enemy, and he can be provoked, although the latter requires pushing him to his limits very hard. Regardless, if he does not see anyone as an enemy, Deluxe is ultimately a nice guy that cares about people, including his friends. Also, he LOVES rock music.

2. CHANGELOG

-v1.5 (May 6, 2026)
*[NERF] Ground knockback for aerial normals was increased in an attempt to remove infinites via shorthopping.
*[CHANGE] If holding backwards, Deluxe's throw will make him turn around.
*[NERF] Ultimate is now blockable, dealing chip damage.
*[BUFF] However, when the ultimate is blocked, its endlag is decreased.
*[FIX] One of the sprites in some palettes had a wrong pixel colour.
*[ADD] Joke intro that is normally unused. I added it because… well, check his files to see why and what it is. =)

-v1.4.5 (February 25, 2026)
*[FIX] Kaizo and Tsuyoi's walking animations were not updated to make use of the new sprites.

-v1.4.1 (January 25, 2026)
*[BUFF] When a parry occurs, a pause appears which gives a chance to use a move before the opponent can recover from the move they're using.

-v1.4 (January 17, 2026)
 *[ADD] One character-specific intro.
 *[ADD] Some more victory quotes.
 *[CHANGE] Walking and running animations.
*[ADD] Walking sounds for Kaizo and Tsuyoi.
*[FIX] Puff Ball used an incorrect hitspark.
*[CHANGE] Mayumi no longer shares Deluxe's colours. With that, some palettes were updated to give her differences, notably in palettes 6 and 12.
*[CHANGE] A.I, mainly when it comes to blocking and countering.

-v1.3 (December 5, 2025)
*[NERF] Only one assist can be now on-screen at a time. This means, if you summon Mayumi for example, Kaizo and Tsuyoi cannot be summoned until Mayumi disappears after 5 seconds when she leaves the stage.
 *[NERF] Counter, in some ways:
*It now only counters melee attacks.
*It cannot be jump cancelled anymore.
*It's no longer a combo tool.
*[FIX] Counter now no longer has a possibility to affect helper-based projectiles or throws (though it might do it with if the helper is a melee attack because of the ReversalDef!)
*[CHANGE] Counter now has more knockback.
*[NERF] Cloud Charge's Z version now functions like a regular projectile. The EX version being a combo starter was retained however, but now has less hitstun and MUCH less blockstun.
 *[ADD] Two more character-specific intros.
*[CHANGE] Crouching Z now launches the opponent up instead of simply hitting them
*[CHANGE] Super jump is now used for combos, as Deluxe now can cancel his crouching Z (a launcher) into it.
*[CHANGE] Palette 12 has been completely changed. The older version is still present and remains unused.

-v1.2 (November 14, 2025)
*[CHANGE] A.I, now making better use of hypers and especially the ultimate.
 *[RENAME] Finisher to Ultimate.
*[CHANGE] The third winpose is now coded in a different way.

*[ADD] Sound effect for Mayumi when she uses her antennae to grab the opponent, making use of a previously unused sound.
*[BUFF] A.I. now jump cancels the Counter.
 *[CHANGE] Readme design.
*[EDIT] Deluxe's eyes during his tripped sprites are now different.
*[FIX] Power gain from EX specials.
*[CHANGE] Stronger versions of Kick Spin make use of hitsparks served for stronger versions.

-v1.0.7 (August 18, 2025)
*[CHANGE] Dash attack now requires two kicks to be pressed instead of punches due to Charge Punch's command getting in.

-v1.0.6 (August 17, 2025)
*[FIX] EX Kick Spin did not require any power.

-v1.0.5 (August 16, 2025)
*[FIX] Puff Ball was incorrectly attributed as a hyper instead of a special. It was also misattributed as a melee attack instead of
 a projectile.

-v1.0.1 (August 9, 2025)
*[BUFF] Finisher now deals 950 damage as intended.
*[CHANGE] Palettes 2 and 3 received slight changes.
*[BUFF] Deluxe now can block while running.

3. GAMEPLAY

-MAIN GAMEPLAY-
Deluxe is a small character that has fast movement speed at the cost of slightly reduced defence. He can zone out the opponents with some of his projectiles, though he also has some rushdown. He can also stun the opponent with one projectile with long cooldown time (to prevent infinites, of course).

Some of his moves are encased in square brackets ([ ]) as seen in this readme. These mean that the button (mainly a directional input) must be held down for the move to be performed. Some specials also come with an EX version, a stronger version that requires 500 power and gives some longer endlag, and EX moves require two buttons to be pressed.

-COMBOS-
Deluxe has combos that mainly make him control the ground, being able to easily chain light normals into medium normals into hard normals, and can chain his standing hard normals into his crouching light normals. He also has a combo starter in the form of EX Cloud Charge, which stuns the opponent and can give Deluxe a chance to perform a combo if you don't feel like zoning the opponents. In addition, he also has a special that can be cancelled into any of his aerials to lead into an air combo. With all of this, Deluxe is a very combo-heavy character, with some larger combos being possible to be done if he has enough power, though this is why it comes at a cost of him having a weaker damage output.

-MECHANICS-
Deluxe has a few mechanics to go through. One of them is a dodge, performed with X+A. When he performs it, he does not get hit from melee attacks and projectiles, giving him a defensive tool, unless he is hit by a throw (which WILL hit him, so don't be surprised when he is hit by a grab for example if he's dodging!). The second one is a power charge, performed with Y+B . Doing this will cause Deluxe to gain power if the button is held, which will give him faster access to EX specials and hypers, though this comes at a cost of not allowing him to move, so make sure you don't abuse it too much. The third one is parrying, performed when you walk forward just before the opponent's attack makes contact, and this mechanic has an airborne version. When performed, Deluxe negates all damage the opponent's attack would do to him, while providing small invincibility to not be hit while parrying. Another one is an air dash, performed by pressing forward twice to do a forward one and vice versa. This does not give him any unique properties, but allows him to cancel it into any of her normals, while giving him more air control. He also has a super jump, performed by pressing down, and then up. This is mostly used for combos, mainly for aerial raves.

A more unique mechanic is that he can fly via Tail Helicopter, which can be cancelled into a special move. It is activated by pressing X+Y+Z while airborne, though it has a limited time, as Deluxe can only fly for 5 seconds before the special is performed. If the 5-second limit runs out, Deluxe will fall down.

-MOVELIST-
SPECIALS:

Cloud Charge: D, DF, F, X/Y/Z
- Deluxe summons a cloud from behind that can be used to zone the opponent from a distance. Can be used while airborne and horizontal distance varies depending on the button pressed.
 - EX version: Goes through the opponents, and is a combo starter at the cost of a 4-second cooldown (regardless if blocked or if it hits).

Charge Punch: F, F, X/Y/Z
- Deluxe charges a punch whose knockdown varies depending on the charge level. To charge, hold the button you've pressed to activate the move.
 - Not charged: No knockdown
 - Least charged: Soft knockdown, but only against airborne opponents
 - Less charged: Soft knockdown
 - More charged: Hard knockdown
 - Fully charged: Wall bounce

Tail Wiggle: D, DF, F, A/B/C
- Deluxe turns around, with his tail wiggling and hitting the opponent several times. Number of hits and duration vary depending on the button pressed. Can be used while airborne and is a good combo tool.
 - EX version: Deluxe goes farther.

Kick Spin: F, D, DF, F, A/B/C
- Deluxe goes up, as he spins while hitting the opponent with his feet. Causes hard knockdown and can be used while airborne. Can be cancelled into any of his aerials to lead into an air combo, though the airborne version cannot be cancelled into his air normals otherwise it would lead to infinites.
 - EX version: Deluxe spins upwards higher.

Puff Ball: D, DB, B, X/Y/Z
- Deluxe throws a puff ball up, which then suddenly charges onto the opponent, causing soft knockdown.
 - EX version: Deluxe throws two puff balls.

Counter: D, DB, B, A/B/C
- Deluxe does a defensive stance, and if he's hit, he performs a short combo that ends up launching the opponent up away.

Ground Pound: A/B/C during Tail Helicopter.
- Deluxe performs a ground pound that bounces him when he hits the ground, and knocks the opponent down. He can cancel it into any of his airborne hypers once he hits the ground, or if it connects (though you need to be quick!).

Kaizo: [B], F, X/A
- Deluxe calls Kaizo, who fires a missile from his arm, knocking the opponent down. The opponent can hit the missile though, but they'll receive a knockdown with very little damage.

Tsuyoi: [B], F, Y/B
- Deluxe calls Tsuyoi, who uses his strength to slam the ground. Launches the opponent up and is a low.

Mayumi: [B], F, Z/C
- Deluxe calls Mayumi, who grabs the opponent with her antennae and throws them to the other side.

------------------------
HYPERS:

Cloud Madness: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, X+Y/Y+Z/X+Z (uses 1000 power)
- Deluxe summons several clouds that fly forward, knocking the opponent down. Can be used while airborne.

Rapid Rush: D, DF, F, D, DF, F, A+B/B+C/A+C (uses 1000 power)
- Deluxe goes forward, hitting the opponent multiple times with his hands. The final hit causes a knockdown. Can be used while airborne.

Puff Ball Fall: D, DB, B, D, DB, B, X+Y/Y+Z/X+Z (uses 2000 power)
- Deluxe looks up as a bunch of Puff Balls fall down, knocking the opponent down.

Cloud Ride: D, DB, B, D, DB, B, A+B/B+C/A+C (uses 2000 power)
- Deluxe goes back, before flying on a cloud very fast, hitting the opponent and launching them up. Tracks the opponent's vertical position
and can be used while airborne.

Guitar Blast: D, DF, F, D, DB, B, X+Y/Y+Z/X+Z (uses 3000 power)
- Deluxe uses his guitar to fire a beam. Reaches the other side of the screen. Can be used while airborne.

Disjointed Tail: D, DF, F, D, DB, B, A+B/B+C/A+C (uses 3000 power)
- Deluxe turns around, and his tail suddenly starts to shake. It then becomes longer, hitting the opponent and causing a wall bounce.

-ULTIMATE-
The ultimate is a move that is performed by crouching thrice and pressing X+Y+Z. The move covers the entire screen, dealing almost enough damage to K.O. the opponent if at full HP, and can only be performed after the "DANGER!" message appears, while giving them full invincibility during its duration.

Deluxe's ultimate - Thunder:
Deluxe uses his cloud-based powers to summon a cloud off-screen that strikes the opponent with a thunder.
(WARNING: THIS MOVE CONTAINS SOME FLASHING!)

-OTHER MOVES-
Guard Cancel: Z+C during blockstun (uses 1000 power)
- Deluxe blows the opponent back, causing hard knockdown. Has quite long range.

============================================================================================================================================================================
4. PALETTES
Deluxe has a total of 12 palettes, all of which can be selected if you press a different button when you're at the character select screen. Note that palettes 7-12 can only be selected if you hold start (which is used for the taunt). However, Deluxe comes with a palette selector, which allows the player to select any of the 12 palettes, which can be helpful if they change their mind before the match can start. Below are the palettes:

A: Default
B: Green
C: Lavender
X: Mario
Y: Sonic
Z: DeMille
Start+A: Marx
Start+B: Klonoa
Start+C: Erma
Start+X: Celebi
Start+Y: 8-bit
Start+Z: Fang

UNUSED 12TH PALETTE: Meeple. The original 12th palette before my opinion on my favourite brawler has changed to Fang. The Meeple palette is left in for those that prefer the Meeple palette more than the Fang one.

5. NOTES

-THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make a match with him.
 2. Share it with your friends/fans in case you would want them to experience a self-insert.
 3. Give him an A.I. patch if you want his A.I. to be stronger. No permission needed, though credit will be still appreciated. :)
 4. Create additional palettes for him, in case you would want more variety or have your own palettes.
 5. Send me feedback if there are any oddities, oopsies, or bugs, especially that can affect his gameplay.

-THINGS YOU CANNOT DO WITH HIM-
 1. Make NSFW/18+ edits (this includes vore edits.).
 2. Bash him (it's a waste of time. There are better ways of using your time rather than bashing. This isn't the 2010s anymore anyways).
 3. Make spriteswaps or paletteswaps of him, because doing them is laziness and is disrespectful.
 4. Giving deconstructive feedback (such as "Your char sucks lol, learn how to make chars dork", or "Lol you can't make chars properly, you're a loser"), as it sounds more like insulting not just the character, but me.

-THINGS THAT REQUIRE PERMISSION-
 1. As I tend to have trust issues with some Mugen content creators, editing her requires permission from me. Note that what can be edited are combos, gameplay, and other stuff, but absolutely no NSFW/18+ edits as mentioned earlier.
 2. Using codes from the character if you're creating a Mugen character yourself. It's better to learn how to code instead of steal, so if you would want to use some of her code, ask me first.
 3. Use of sprites in a different project.

-KNOWN ISSUES-
 1. The A.I. code is not perfect, but I tried.

-OTHER NOTES-
 1. This character was made only for Mugen 1.0 and up. Older versions of Mugen will not load the character.
 2. Tested on Mugen 1.1, but still works on Mugen 1.0.

6. FAQ
(for more FAQ, head onto my site: https://sites.google.com/view/dxgsmugensite/faq

Q: Being your self-insert, you're the one who voiced Deluxe?
A: Yes, of course, I am the voice of Deluxe. It's without any effects and completely recorded without applying any effects.

Q: Who voiced Kaizo? You know, that robot who appears as an assist?
A: I also voiced Kaizo, although I did apply some effects to stay true to him being a robot. Notably, he has a robotized voice, and his pitch is slightly higher.

Q: Tsuyoi's voice? It sounds familiar...
A: Tsuyoi's voice comes from Knuckles' voice from Sonic Adventure, except from a different version, which was also the origin of his famous "OH NO!" clip.

Q: What about Mayumi's voice?
A: Mayumi uses Arle's voice from Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. Yes, although I've never played any game from this series yet, I'm planning on doing it one day because I have an interest. :D

Q: What does Tsuyoi's name mean?
A: It means "Strong" in Japanese. This is a reference to him being the strongest in Deluxe's group, having really great strength.

1. Unpack the character's folder and add it in the chars folder
2. Go to data and open select
3. Paste the following name in the character section: DeluxetheCloudy

And here you go! Deluxe should now appear anytime you start Mugen.
